My name is Ralph Caggiano, owner of Longevity. In 1982, for my 10th birthday, my father bought me my first 110 pound weight set from the Weider Company and a doorway pull-up bar. I was pumped! I was a chubby 10 year old and I was determined to change that; working out regularly. In 1994, while enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard I was certified as a fitness instructor through the Cooper’s Institute for Aerobic Research and served as my unit’s wellness coordinator. I provided nutrition and training advice as well as personalized assessments. I continued in this position until 1996 when I changed career paths and spent the next 26 years in law enforcement. During my time as a first responder I developed a few injuries; my left knee has been operated on twice and I’m managing chronic low back pain that resulted after years of sitting too much, wearing a uniform that is not spine friendly, duties of the job, and just not giving my body the attention it needed for longevity. Because of my experiences and setbacks I got serious about my health, lost 40 pounds, and found my passion to not only help myself get back on track, but also a desire to help others to either come back from setbacks or prevent those setbacks from ever happening to them. That’s why I started Longevity!
